Isaiah 42:1-9

Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen, in whom my soul delights;

I have put my spirit upon him;
he will bring forth justice to the nations.

I have given you as a covenant to the people,
a light to the nations,
to open the eyes that are blind,

Hebrews 9:11-15

For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance,

After spending time reading and meditating on today’s reading, I am drawn to the word, Covenant, a binding promise of far-reaching importance.  We have a covenant with God which rules our lives, not just on Sunday but daily and while we all know and acknowledge this, we always fall short.

Lately, I have been feeling helpless when reading and/or listening to the news.  How can I help?  Ukraine, the Holy Land, Haiti to name just those places highlighting the current news cycle.  Is praying for peace and sending some money enough?  What is God calling me to do?

Then there are all on the local issues in this country, dividing and not uniting us.  Being of the Boomer Generation, I have experienced many years/decades of societal conflict. What is God calling me to do?

Is prayer enough?  Does God always hear me? What can I do to help solve these deeply engrained problems and conflicts?

Coming to church, worshiping and praying together help strengthens my belief in God’s covenant.  God will give us all the strength we require, if we remember to keep his covenant.
