History-timeline event led by Canon Dena Cleaver-Bartholomew

October 27
Over 140 parishioners participated in the history-timeline event led by Canon Dena Cleaver-Bartholomew. Following the 9:00 am service Sunday morning, parishioners gathered in St. Luke’s Community Kitchen to enjoy a brunch prepared by youth group members Charlie Knowlton, Ryan Scarber, Shawn Scarber, and Catherine Pilkington. Our youth faith formation coordinator, Amy Weigand, organized a Halloween party for the youngest children while parishioners participated in revisiting our history.

Going back to 1964-86, we started with the tenure of The Rev. Alfred Burns, then to The Rev. David Gillispie, who served as Interim/Priest-in-Charge from 1986-92. Reflections on our time with The Rev. Craig Burlington brought us to 2010 and a short interim period until the arrival of The Rev. Tim Rich who served St. Luke’s up until 2024.

Patterns surfaced in a review of parishioner reflections ranging from a focus on inclusiveness and community, to our signature music program and outreach efforts, to the appreciation of excellent preaching and multi-generational faith formation. Concerns noted financial issues and lack of staff to serve the needs of this parish, i.e., ”We are holding steady but not growing.”

On December 8, parishioners will participate in small group discussions to clarify and expand on these reflections. All information from these events will serve as the foundational material for the St. Luke’s profile that will shape our call for a new rector at St. Luke’s.

We are blessed by the generous and heartfelt engagement of our parishioners in these transition activities. To watch a video from our history event, click here.
