Take Jesus‘ hand this Advent

December 15, 2022

IsaIah 9:18-10:4 | 2 Peter 2:10b-16 | Matthew 3:1-12

For all this, his anger has not turned away;
His hand is stretched out still.

The Isaiah passage could have been written yesterday, so apt are its observations. The wrath of God is manifested today in the form of conflagrations and drought. A recent news article bemoans the effects of lack of water this summer on some RI Christmas tree farms, making it necessary to close some and start over, hoping for better years in the future.

Isaiah warns us about our shabby treatment of others, especially those less fortunate than ourselves. We fight each other to no good end. We need to pay attention to what we are doing to our world and fellow human beings. We need to repent our evil ways.

God has given us a chance to start over through repentance. Let’s be brave enough to take Jesus’ hand this Advent and be a part of making things better.
