“…pray for those who persecute you…”
March 12, 2022
Deuteronomy 26:16–19 | Matthew 5:43–48 | Psalm 119:1–8
Scripture Matthew 5:43-48 “…pray for those who persecute you…”
How easy it is to pray for ourselves or for those who don’t persecute us.
“Father in Heaven, bless this marriage.”
“Dear Lord, please heal my mother.”
“Oh God, get me though this test.”
Praying for those who persecute us is a different thing altogether. A few years ago, I had a conversation with a priest on this subject, and I would like to share some thoughts from that conversation.
Our words and actions come from the heart. If bad things are coming from a heart, that heart can change. Who can change that heart? We cannot change a heart, but God can. And we can ask Him to change the heart of someone who persecutes us.
Try it. It might not happen overnight, so persist in prayer. God is faithful. And don’t be surprised if God if God changes your heart too.
