Oh, to have been a fly on the wall…
January 1, 2025
Numbers 6:22-27| Galatians 4:4-7| Luke 2:15-21 | Psalm 8
I often wonder to myself what it must have been like to be able to see and experience what went on in the barn where Jesus was born. The noise, the animals, the smells, the cries, the visitors, the angels with singing, the bright stars … and how very tired Mary and Joseph must have been. But also they were so very excited about their son, and all they learned about his coming. Perhaps they were somewhat confused and unsure about everything that was happening and would happen, but believing that God was with them, caring for them and watching over them.
Things began to wind down a bit – the Angels returned to heaven. But now it was time for the shepherds, perhaps quiet men and boys, simple, careful in tending their animals. It was their turn to see what had occurred. They were courageous and told many what they had experienced – about the birth of Christ, the family — the child in the manger. Not everyone understood what had happened, but these shepherds did. They saw and experienced.
Mary treasured and remembered every moment, holding her thoughts in her heart.
Eight days later Jesus was circumcised. No decision to be made about his name. They knew his name would be Jesus, as Mary was told that by the Angel Gabriel.
Such a beautiful story!
At the beginning of this new year, 2025, full of hope and expectation, our wish for you …
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.Numbers 6:24-26
