Gifts from God

Psalm 33 | 1 Kings 19:1-8 | Ephesians 4:1-16 | John 6:1-14

Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus is filled with words of encouragement and instruction. I have been given a small part of that to consider.

Paul begins the passage with instructions on attitude and conduct. He reminds people there (and us as well) of the basics of Christian growth. The body must live by faith depending always on hope, being reminded of their baptism and the presence of God always.

Paul continues with words about gifts. A dictionary definition of gift is “a natural talent.” I understand that as something inborn, given by God and used for good. Paul lists some of these gifts: apostles, prophets, evangelists. These are to be used for building up the body of Christ here on earth.

There are numerous gifts beyond those mentioned that keep the church healthy and growing. Have you discovered yours? If you can say yes, thank God for it. If not, pray asking God to reveal it.

Paul summarizes: We are no longer to be children tossed by the waves and whirled about by every fresh gust of teaching by dupes and rogues with their deceitful schemes. No. Let us speak the truth in love so shall we fully grow into Christ.
