For this I say “Hallelujah”.

Deuteronomy 26:16–19  |  Psalm 119:1–8  |  Matthew 5:43–48

The verses in Deuteronomy and the preceding chapters contain numerous laws and statutes that God gave to the Israelites to be obeyed when they entered the Promised Land.  The consequences for disobedience was the same for breaking any of those commandments: death.

Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount, reminded His listeners that He is, by the grace and mercy of God, the fulfillment of the law. And He will pay the price of disobedience for all of us with His own death.  Has there ever been a greater love?

On Good Friday we will spend time in remembrance of how He did it, and on Easter we will celebrate His success with joy and praise.  For this I say “Hallelujah”.  Even if it is Lent.
