Faithfulness

Daniel 3:14–20,24–28Canticle [2] or 13  |  John 8:31–42

In the Old Testament reading, Shadrach, Mesach, and Abednego were challenged by King Nebuchnezzar who insisted they deny their faith and fall down and worship his golden statue. They faced being tossed into a fiery furnace if they did not comply. Shadrach, Mesach, and Abednego demonstrated remarkable faithfulness to God by refusing to follow the king’s orders. They even acknowledged their belief that God could deliver them from harm.

In turn, our ever-present God was faithful to them and miraculously spared them any harm when they were tossed into the fire.

This amazing story is a good reminder to trust God and to be steadfast and ever faithful to Him. In our struggles and challenges in this life, we are never alone. Our Lord is ever present, and He is able deliver us like he did his faithful servants Shadrach, Mesach, and Abednego.
