Frequently Asked Questions

🕊️ Worship Questions

What time is the service?

Our services are every Sunday at 8 am (spoken) and 10 am (with choir).

How long is a service?

Our services are typically around an hour to an hour and a half long.

What kind of music do you use — traditional, contemporary, or both?

We typically use traditional music, but for special events we may use contemporary.

Do I have to be Episcopalian to attend?

Not at all. All are welcome.

Can I take communion?

Absolutely. Everyone is welcome to take communion, although you are not required to do so. If you prefer, you can ask for a blessing from our clergy instead.

What should I wear?

Whatever makes you feel most comfortable. We have no dress code.

Is the service streamed online?

Yes! All our 10 am services are streamed online on our Youtube.

How are Episcopalians different from Catholics?

Episcopalians and Catholics share many similarities—like meaningful rituals, beautiful worship, and deep roots in the early church. You’ll notice familiar elements in Episcopal services: communion, candles, vestments, and prayers that echo centuries of Christian tradition. One difference is that Episcopalians aren’t led by the Pope; instead, leadership is shared more locally and nationally. Episcopal priests can be men or women, and many are married. While faith and tradition are taken seriously, there’s also space for questions, reflection, and diverse perspectives. In many ways, the Episcopal Church offers a similar spiritual rhythm to Catholicism, with a strong emphasis on community, openness, and grace.

👨‍👩‍👧 Family & Kids Questions

Is there a nursery or childcare?

Yes! Nursery care is available for children ages 3 and under during and after the 10:00AM Sunday service

Can my kids stay with me in the service?

Absolutely! Children are always welcome. Feel free to come to the front and use our Prayground if interested. Children are encouraged to come forward, sit on the rug, and participate in a way that makes worship meaningful for them. We also have Youth Faith Formation classes starting at 9:45AM most Sundays. Please click here to learn more.

What if my baby cries?

No worries! We have many children in our parish, and we love the sounds they make. If it’s helpful to you, we have a Prayground at the front of the church as well as rocking chairs set up in the back of the sanctuary.

Do you have Sunday School or youth group?

Yes! Youth Faith Formation classes start at 9:45AM most Sundays, and our youth group, called Fun & Faith Fridays, meets on the third Friday of the month. Please click here to learn more

🚗 Logistics & Comfort

Where do I park?

Our parking lot is between our church building and Academy Field.

Where do I go when I arrive?

Enter through any door and make your way to the church–you can tell where it is from outside because it has a large steeple!

Will someone greet me?

Our Ushers will greet you and hand you a service bulletin. This will have all the information about the service so that you can follow along. Feel free to ask our ushers any questions that you may have.

Do I have to sign in or register?

No.  Although, if this is your first time and you would like to connect with us, we’d love for you to share your information with us.

What if I’m running late?

That’s okay! We understand that it can be tough to get everyone ready and out the door. Join the service at any time. An usher will give you a service bulletin and you can feel free to take a seat.

🤝 Belonging & Beliefs

Are LGBTQ+ folks and families welcome here?

Absolutely. The Episcopal Church is an open and affirming denomination. All are welcome here at St. Luke’s.

What if I’m not sure what I believe yet?

That’s okay! It is normal to have doubts and questions. Feel free to attend service anyways and ask the rector about any questions you may have.

I haven’t been to church in years. Is it okay if I just come and listen?

Yes. We know returning to church can be intimidating. There is no pressure to participate in our services.

How is St. Luke's leadership organized?

Episcopal parishes have a Vestry which is the governing body of the parish. These members are elected by all the voting members of the parish. The Vestry appoints the Priest and can review and change church bylaws.
