Trust and Faith
January 2, 2025
Genesis 12:1-7| Hebrews 11:1-12| John 6;35-42, 48-51
Genesis 12:1-7
As I read through this passage two words came to mind: trust and faith. These words are related to each other in that without trust there can be no faith. Once there is faith there can be future trust.
Abraham is frequently held up as a paragon of faith, and with good reason. God told Abraham to take his family and everything he owned and set off on a journey that God would show him. There were promises made as well, and without hesitation, Abraham obeyed.
Hebrews 11: 1-12
Again, we find that faith is the theme and is defined as giving substance to our hopes and makes us certain of realities that we do not see right away. There follows a “Hall of Fame” of famous names: Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and even Sarah who conceived even though she was well beyond the age of childbearing, thus participating in the promise that Abraham would leave many descendants.
John 6:35-42
The word faith does not appear in this passage, but we see God’s promise of a savior who came and His own trust in His willingness do His Father’s will in every aspect of His life even to take upon Himself the sins of the world.
