Comfort
March 13, 2024
Isaiah 49:8-15 | John 5:19-29 | Psalm 145:8-19
Although the word “comfort” does not appear in these passages, I became aware that the concept is a theme found in each one.
In Isaiah God comforts His people in the form of promises of freedom from hunger, thirst, and disaster. He comforts us when we are afraid, in trouble, or ill. We need only to call on Him. He knows our needs.
I found comfort in the psalm also. Even though the word itself is not there, the concept is. The Lord is generous, compassionate, and merciful. He raises the fallen and is near to all who call on Him.
In John’s gospel we read that if we heed Jesus’ teachings which have come from the Father, and believe, we are assured of eternal life. Our sins are washed away through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Thanks be to God.
